Montrose Artisans, based in Montrose, Alabama, continues the production and sales of "Classic Craftsman" products developed through The Design Shop by its founder (my dad), John N. White.

John developed the Evolution of the Golf Ball displays over thirty years ago through his association with the late Laurie Aucterlonie of St. Andrews, Scotland. Mr. Aucterlonie was the last in his long line of well-known St. Andrews club and ball makers, and served as Curator and Honorary Professional for The Royal & Ancient. Over the years, he became a mentor and friend to John; their rapport deepened through a shared viewpoint of uncompromising quality and appreciation of golf's history.

Years ago, Mr. Aucterlonie loaned John his personal antique feathery ball to use as a model for originating the replica. When John returned the antique ball, he included a completed Single display with the replica affixed inside as a gift. Mr. Aucterlonie's initial reaction was indignation - that his ball had been somehow adhered to the walnut base. Finding his original safely secured in the packing material, he called John to tell of his mistake, and to express his appreciation for the gift and the authenticity of John's reproduction.

My dad was proud to have had several of his reproductions on display in Laurie Aucterlonie's shop in St. Andrews. He avoided short cuts in making his reproductions, and was consistently devoted to detail and craftsmanship. He asked me to take over the business in which he had such a personal investment because he knew I was as particular about quality of craftsmanship as he. The materials I use are through the sourcing and craftsmen Dad used for decades.

Montrose Artisans stands behind the quality of our work, and guarantees your satisfaction.
